Frequently Asked Questions

What is FOTA and how do you help people?

FOTA stands for Families of the Accused.  I provide coaching, support and connection for the families of people accused of a crime.   When your loved one is arrested for a crime, it can be one of the most terrifying, confusing and isolating times in your life.  I started The FOTA Project so families wouldn’t have to face this alone.

How does your program work? How do you help people?

I will meet with you once a week (more or less if needed) by phone or Zoom. As we meet together and I learn the details about your situation, I’ll give you tools to help you manage the anxiety, fear, shame, guilt and overwhelm you may be feeling.  I’ll make sure you don’t remain in isolation.  I’ll connect you with others, too.

I’ll also make recommendations to resources which will be the most help to you.  This will save you a many hours of work, and help you avoid common pitfalls.

And—perhaps most importantly—you’ll have a safe place where you can share how you’re feeling, cry, complain, or just vent without having to worry about hurting anyone’s feelings.  I am here for you.  :)

How do you I work with you if I don’t live near you?

All appointments are either Zoom or telephone, regardless of either of our locations.

Are you available on weekends? Holidays?

Generally no.  We can discuss short term emergency check-ins if needed, though.

How long are your sessions?

Regular sessions are 1 hour.  Emergency check-ins are 30 minutes.

Can you give me legal advice?

No.  I’m not an attorney.  I can give you tips and guidance on finding an attorney if needed.

What is an emergency check in?

You’re facing possibly the largest, most disruptive time of your life.  Sometimes storms like this pay no attention to regular business hours.  Emergency check ins are 30-minute sessions with me outside of our regularly scheduled weekly sessions.

What are your fees and how does payment work?

Sessions are $125. I accept payment by Paypal or card. Packages are available upon request.

Will you attend attorney meetings and court appearances with me?

No, but we can schedule a session just before, just after, or both.

Will you visit my family member in prison?

No, but I can help you through the maze of getting on a visitor list and support you through your first visit.  I have some pretty cool resources that can help increase the possibility of other family members and friends supporting your loved one during their prison sentence and after they’re released.

Can you refill my anxiety med prescription?

No, I’m not a therapist or a physician.  If you feel that you need a therapist or a physician I can help you find one in your area and I encourage you to seek them out immediately.
